Pictured below is what is likely Mokena’s oldest length of sidewalk, built on Union Street around 1910 by Julius Gustav Oswald. A lifelong native of the village, Oswald was a manufacturer of all things concrete and was responsible for the installation of the majority of hard sidewalks in town in the early part of the 20th century.
